THIRD GRADE SINGS; FOURTH GRADE PLAYS UKULELES FOR NATIONAL ANTHEM

Vocal Director Autumn Schultz has been teaching her fourth grade elementary students how to play the ukuleles this school year. She recently decided to have them play the National Anthem at the home double header basketball game on February 1 when the Pirates took on the Menno Wolves. The third graders did the singing while the fourth grade got to show their talents and skills on playing the ukuleles.

LITTLE PIRATES PARTICIPATE IN CHEER CAMP

Avon cheerleaders and Cheer Coach Becky Haenfler recently hosted the Little Pirates Cheer Camp on January 29. There were 48 little cheerleaders from grades preschool through eighth grade that attended camp.

Every month a Avon High School student is recognized for their academic effort, good character, overall good behavior, and treating everybody with kindness. Students who win this award receive perks: one bag of beef sticks from Southside Meats; a Concession Stand Ticket from Scott and Theresa Swier for a bag of popcorn and a drink; 5 Chamber bucks from Avon Community Bank; a gift certificate for a burger, fries, and a drink from Tolsma’s Cove; $5 gift certificate from Deb and Nyla’s; 25% off of prom flowers from the Flower Shop; a free Pirate T-shirt from the Avon Booster Club; and the student of the month parking spot.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOM FOR NOV/DEC

When a middle school student wins the student of the month, they get $5 Chamber Bucks from Avon Community Bank, a Gift certificate for a burger and a drink from Tolsma’s Cove, Avon Pirate gear from Cahoy’s service, concessions stand ticket from Mrs. Swier, and a Student of the Month yard sign from the Avon Booster Club.

ELEMENTARY CELEBRATES 100 TH DAY OF SCHOOL

February 2 was the one hundredth day of school for the Avon School District. To celebrate this day, Mrs. Benita Khulman’s first grade class participated in several one hundred day themed activities. Students were dressed up like they were one hundred years old and made “Day One Hundred” hats.

STUDENTS LEARN VALUE OF POSITIVE THINKING

Resilience is defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. On Wednesday, February 2, grades seven through twelve had the opportunity to listen to a speaker talk to them about resiliency. Ryan Dannen, a sergeant in the army, presented information to help kids deal with the emotional baggage associated with growing up. He offered advice. “Don’t stay silent.” “Take a moment to think about the things that affect you negatively.” “Say things from a positive perspective.”
