The Avon Pirate football team traded the field for the pool last Tuesday evening for a little “fun” conditioning. The change of scenery gave the players a chance to cool off while still putting in the work as they continue to prepare for the season ahead.
For more than five decades, Jurrens Electronics has been a familiar part of Avon — but the business didn’t begin with a storefront on Main Street. It began in the trunk of a 1964 Chevy.Loren Jurrens’ interest in electronics started when he was young. “I loved electronics from little on,” Loren said.
It was a beautiful morning on Thursday, August 27 when Wagner Cross Country took on their season opener in Beresford. This is a great meet to start off the season as it has so many diverse teams that Wagner doesn’t get to compete against in many of their other races.

This past month, the book club of the library read “ Theo of Golden” by Alex Levi. The members were delighted by this novel. It is currently number one on the New York Times Best Sellers List. It was interesting to note that this is Mr.

The Avon cross country team heads into the 2026 season with a good group of returning runners, along with several newcomers ready to see what they can accomplish this fall. Avon has nine runners out for cross country this season, with eight boys and one girl.

The 19th Annual Wagner Cancer Walk was held on a beautiful evening Saturday, August 8, at Wagner Lake, bringing together cancer survivors, families, friends, and community members for an evening of hope and remembrance.
The Wagner Rotary Club gathered for its regular Wednesday meeting on July 22. President Jeff Doom made his arm vibrate as he whacked the Rotary Bell to bring members to order. Rotary Grace was said and then a delicious roast beef meal by Valley Pump was enjoyed by all.
Funeral services for Russell Bechtold, 85, of Avon, were Friday, August 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Burial was in the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon was in charge of arrangements.
A Rosary Service for Joseph Anderson, age 70, of Kansas City, MO, formerly of Platte and Wagner, will be held at St. John Catholic Church in Wagner at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 4. The funeral Mass will be at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Platte at 11:00 a.m.
The Avon 8U Baseball team wrapped up its season in championship fashion by hosting and winning the 8U League Tournament on Saturday, June 27. The young Pirates opened the tournament with a 15-4 victory over Tabor before defeating Parkston 7-2 to advance to the championship game.
