The Wagner Red Raiders defeated Ethan on Monday night in an overtime thriller. The Red Raiders were down 15-18 after the first period and trailed 27-35 at half time. Toby Zephier scored 14 of Wagner’s 26 points in the third period to pull Wagner ahead 53-49 heading into the fourth period. The Rustlers from Ethan Outscored Wagner by 4 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Toby Zephier came through for the Red Raiders with 6 seconds left making two free throws, the first to tie the game and the second to take a 1 point lead. Wagner got a stop the final possession and won the game by a final score of 74-73. Toby Zephier had a career high in points scoring 30, he also tied a school record making 7 three pointers. Dustin Honomichl scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds. Preston McFayded added 7 points, Chris Nelson and Ted Slaba each scored 4, and Carter Cournoyer scored 2.

The Red Raiders took a 32-21 lead into half time and extended it to a 54-33 lead heading into the final period. TDA played hard in the fourth quarter and cut the Red Raider lead to 12 but that was as close as they could get, Wagner won the game 69-57. Dustin Honomichl led the way with 14 points, Toby zephier added 12, Chris Nelson 11, Matt Link 8, Carter Cournoyer 7, Ted Slaba and Glenn Cournoyer 6 each and Preston McFayded 5. The Red Raiders will travel to Chamberlain Friday night to try to extend their winning streak.

Wagner had trouble putting up points against the Night Hawks who applied a lot of pressure on defense and forced the Red Raiders into several turn overs. Wagner lost the game 46-16. Joey Cournoyer led the way with 10 points, Carter Cournoyer added 4 and Parker Petry 2. The Wagner JV team will be in action on Friday night in Chamberlain.

Read moreThe Ethan Rustlers came to Wagner to play a single game against the Raiders on Monday. Ethan got off to a fast start and pushed the ball in transition to open a 10-3 lead after the first quarter. The Raiders settled down in the second quarter and played much better transition defense and limited the Rustlers to 5 points in the quarter. This also helped them on the offensive end as they put up 14 points in the quarter to take a 17-15 lead at the half. It was an even second half as the Raiders built four- and five-point leads, only to have Ethan come back and tie the game both times. Wagner maintained a 2-point lead heading into the final period. The Raiders got into foul trouble in the 4th that led to free throws for Ethan that kept them in the game. With eleven seconds to go in the game, an Ethan player was fouled and made the front end of a one-and-one to give Ethan a 36-35 lead. He missed the second and the Raiders got the ball moved it across half court before calling a timeout. The Raiders set up a side out-of-bounds play with seven seconds to go. Ethan had the initial look defended well and the ball ended up in Dominic Doom’s hands at the 3-point line. Without hesitation, Dominic rose and shot the 3 pointer and made it at the buzzer winning the game for the Raiders by a score of 38-36. The win improves the A team record to 5-6 on the season. Leading scorers for the Raiders were: Javian Pesicka with 9, Jesse Zephier with 8, Gabe Rouse and Ky Arpan each with 6, Leon Fields with 4, Dominic Doom with 3 and Shea Kjeldgaard with 2. The Raiders travel to Plankinton on Thursday, February 17, to take on the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans in a pair of games.
