AVON 18U SOFTBALL VS. SCOTLAND

On Wednesday, June 16 Avon 18U hosted Scotland in a doubleheader in 100 degree heat and came up short against the defending state champions. In game 1, Scotland jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Avon pitcher Reece Loewe started and took the loss; other pitchers included Macy Voigt and Kinley Doom. Hits for Avon included Katie Gretschmann, Loewe and Doom.

WAGNER LAKESIDE MOTEL MAKES IMPROVEMENTS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP

The Wagner Lakeside Motel, on South Dakota’s Highway 46, came under new ownership on February 11th, 2021. Mohan Chaudhari and Rajesh Patel purchased the motel and have been busy with remodeling efforts and general updating in order to make their new business venture a destination site for travelers coming to Charles Mix County.

Greer Post #11 American Legion

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on June 17, 2021 at the Post Home. Commander Clayton Rados called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados had previously thanked the cooks for the fine meal and then called the meeting to order. There were 20 members in attendance for the meeting with one guest, Caden Goodrich, John Stone’s grandson.

Bon Homme County 4-H horse members will be participating in the 2021 Bon Homme & Charles Mix County Horse Show at the Springfield 7-N Arena, 31164 Equal Rights Road, Springfield. This is a combined county show.

ROTARY NEWS

The Heat Index was pushing towards one hundred when the Wagner Rotary Club met on Wednesday, June 18th. Pastor/Rotarian/ Musician Laurie Kidd started the meeting with a prayer of thanks for the rain we had a week ago and asked that everyone practice safe measures in this extreme heat. Laurie then moved to the piano, and we sang two verses of “Home on the Range” and a rousing rendition of “Roll Rotary.” We sound so much better when she plays the piano and leads the singing.

The 1st Annual 605 Unity Jam was held at Wagner Lake Sunday, June 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The multi-cultural celebration was hosted by East River Horizons (www.eastriverhorizons.org).
