BON HOMME ACHIEVEMENT DAYS RESULTS

The 2021 Bon Homme County 4-H Achievement Days ended with the Senior and Junior Round Robin Showmanship Contest. Contestants that competed were Seniors Brock Kotalik, Riley Hellmann, Hayden Talsma, Landon Thury and Lincoln Thury. Juniors were Emma Balvin, Carmindy Ferwerda, Peyton Hellmann, Rilyn Thury and Tarynn Torsney. In the Senior Division Riley Hellmann received the Grand Champion award and Lincoln Thury received Reserve Champion. In the Junior Division Peyton Hellmann received the Grand Champion award and Tarynn Torsney was awarded Reserve Champion.

VOSIKA WINS RANDY MEIERS MEMORIAL RACE FRIDAY AT WAGNER

This past Friday night was a special night in the history of Wagner Speedway, honoring the memory of a former racer, long-time race official and flagman at the track, Randy Meiers. During his racing days, Randy won four features, but his legacy would be in his countless hours working as an official, then head flagman at Wagner. Randy succumbed to cancer this past March, but his memory lives on. Numerous friends and family members joined fans for a great night of racing and two classes holding twin features, including the Randy Meiers Memorial IMCA Hobby Stock twin feature, with all the action sponsored by Rog's Auto of Wagner.

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

It is often said that laughter is the best medicine, yet I have never written a prescription for a funny movie, or a television comedy show, and I have no clowns or rubber chickens in my office. On the contrary, doctors are often expected to be serious and professional. Perhaps we are missing a great opportunity to help heal. What if more doctors were like Dr. Patch Adams, who is known by the medical community for his quest to inject humor and laughter into the treatment of patients?

SHOULD GUNS BE CONSIDERED FOR THEIR INVESTMENT POTENTIAL?

Using money to make money, at least with traditional methods such as bonds, CD’s, treasury notes, interest paid by banks, and the stock market is difficult today as our dollar’s buying power is slipping faster than today’s interest rates pay. What about firearms as an investment? The May 2021 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine featured two articles, “Golden Opportunities” by Robert W. Hunnicutt, and “Hard Assets” by Keith Wood, that have made me think about guns as practical investments.

WAGNER CUB SCOUTS PLANT TREE IN MEMORY OF COREY IRWIN

On Monday, July 26 the Wagner Cub Scouts in partnership with the city of Wagner and Kirwan Design and Landscaping planted a tree at Wagner Lake in memory of Cub Scout Leader and friend, Corey Irwin. Both the Cub Scouts and family members were present to assist in planting the tree. The Cub Scouts will be watering the tree daily and watching it grow tall and strong.

PURPLE HEART RECOGNITION DAY

PIERRE - At the request of the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs, Gov. Kristi Noem has proclaimed Saturday, August 7 as "Purple Heart Recognition Day," calling on all South Dakotans to honor those men and women who are recipients of the Purple Heart Medal.
