THE AVON LOCKER: A FAREWELL FROM FORMER OWNERS

After almost thirty years in the meat locker business, owners Dave and Sandra Brandt are saying good-bye to their treasured small business. At the age of 74-years-old, Dave admits it is time to hang up his butchering duties and enjoy retirement. ARE YOU AWARE OF THE 30 X 30 INITIATIVE? YOU SHOULD BE.

There is a huge story hiding in the midst of less important news items, and I would be remiss, as would every media source in the country, to not report on what has been dubbed by conservatives as the 30 x 30 Land Grab. This initiative, endorsed by President Biden (executive order 14008), is aimed at placing 30% of our nation’s land and water under federal protection/ownership by the year 2030. A Rotary program first made me aware of the 30 x 30 Initiative. Since that time concerned landowner emails and talk around Wagner have heightened my awareness.

AFTER FIVE DECADES, MARILYN ZYLSTRA ENJOYS RETIREMENT

Marilyn Zylstra has seen a lot of change throughout her long and rewarding career. As she enters retirement she will be greatly missed as the administrative secretary at Wagner Elementary School. However, the fond memories of Zylstra’s work ethic and devotion will always be remembered.

Funeral services for Zachary Johnson, 27, of Avon were held Friday, July 23 at the Avon High School Gymnasium in Avon. The family requested friends to wear any sports apparel or team colors of Zach’s or your favorite sports team. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the American Heart Association or to a memorial to be determined at a later date. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Loren Zephier, 68, of Pickstown were Saturday, July 24 at the Marty Indian School Gym in Marty. Burial was in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Marty. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES MIX 4-H JUNIOR LEADERS

The Charles Mix 4-H Junior Leaders met on Thursday, July 22nd at 6:30 p.m. After the completion of the Flag Pledges, the roll call was taken. In attendance were Bradley Dangel, Callie Bergin, Cole Bergin, Emery Bultje, Kaelee Pazour, Lexi Schoenfelder, Luke Dangel, Marin Bultje, Riata Bultje, Tessa Pazour, and Brody Krcil. Guests were Tina Dangel, Jenna Krcil, Travis Krcil, Jayme Bergin, Brittany Schoenfelder, Darci Bultje, Mike Dangel, and 4-H Youth Program Advisor Michael J. Koranda.
