South Dakota State Wrestling was held on February 25-27 in Rapid City at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Avon was represented in the 126 lb. weight class by sophomore Brady Bierema. Seeded seventh for Class B, after three days of wrestling Bierema came away with third place. His path to the podium started with Andrew Evens from Parker where he won by decision 11-4. His only loss came to Owen Hanson from Burke with a tech fall 23-8. Wrestling back through the losers bracket, Bierema faced Christian Ehresmann of Groton winning by decision 8-3. He then took the mat with Dylan Zell from De Smet winning 4-2 by decision. Defeating Kale Ask from Canton by decision 3-1 put him into contention for 3rd against Porter Neugebauer from Parkston. Bierema won 3-1 by decision.

Read moreThe Wagner Red Raiders traveled to Salem on Tuesday to take on Sioux Valley in the SoDak 16. The Red Raiders came out hot shooting the ball well from 3 and taking an early lead. The Cossacks fought back and took an 18-14 lead into the second period. Sioux Valley made 7 three point baskets in the second period and took a commanding 43-24 lead into half time. The Cossacks continued to shoot the ball well in the second half and defeated Wagner 79-49. The Red Raiders were led by Toby Zephier who had 13 points and 3 assists. Alex Cournoyer added 10 points and 6 rebounds, Dustin Honomichl scored 7 points and had 4 rebounds, Simon Freier scored 6 points, Nolan Carda added 5, Jaden Peters, Marcus Zephier, Chris Nelson and Matt Link all scored 2. Wagner finished the season 11-11.
