On Wednesday, June 2, Wagner’s teener teams traveled to Wessington Springs for their first competitions of year. The 14U team took the field first with Carter Cournoyer starting on the bump. Carter would pitch five very effective innings as he struck out 12 of the 19 batters he faced while walking no one. He did give up three hits in the first inning that ended up plating two runs. Unfortunately, that’s all the home team would need as they would hold Wagner to just one run, winning by the score of 2-1.

Malakai Segura was the starting pitcher for Wagner and was a bit shaky his first time on the big mound. He walked the first four batters he faced. He was then relieved by Joey Cournoyer who pitched capably to get us out of the first inning only down three runs. But some additional walks and shaky defense ultimately led to nine Corsica runs as they defeated Wagner by a score of 9-2 in four innings (the four innings played were due to our 7:00) limit. Frank Soukup also pitched one gave up zero runs on one hit in his one inning of work.
