In May the Bargain Shoppe gave $2,000 to Good Samaritan Society-Tyndall. In June the Bon Homme 4-H program was given $500. In July the Snack Pack/Back Pack Programs in Tyndall, Avon and Scotland received $2,000 each. In August the elementary teachers in Avon and Scotland were given $600. The Bon Homme 4-2 Elementary teachers (five schools) received $2,600. In September $1,000 was given to each of the libraries in the five communities in Bon Homme County. The Bargain Shoppe, which opened in 2007, is a non-profit thrift store run totally by volunteers. The volunteers log an average of 250 to 325 hours a month to keep the Shoppe running. The store hours are Wednesday's 10-4, Thursday's 3-6 and the second Saturday of each month 9-12. Please watch our facebook page for additional pop up open hours this fall. Donations of gently used, clean items can be dropped off during business hours only.

Read moreFeeding South Dakota food distribution will be held Friday, Sept. 24 at the Scotland Community Church at 8:45 a.m.; the Tyndall Fire Hall at 10:30 a.m. and at the Avon Fire Hall at 12 noon. This will continue to be a “drive-thru” distribution until further notice.

Read moreOn Monday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m., Avon School hosted the 2021 homecoming coronation in the gym. The queen candidates included Makayla Kopp, Katie Gretschmann, Reese Powers, Reece Loewe, and Tiffany Pelton. The king candidates consisted of Riley Rucktaeschel, Lincoln Thury, Justin Ferwerda, Eli Watchorn, and Keegan McAdaragh. Gretschmann and Watchorn were crowned queen and king, respectively.
Read moreEvery year the Avon Music Department puts on a tailgate supper at one of the home football games to raise money for the school year. This year the tailgate will be October 1. It will run from 5 to 7 p.m. when the team takes on Colome. They will be serving loaded baked potatoes, taverns, desserts, and drinks in the small white shed south of the concession stand at the field.

Although last year's record was two wins to six losses, this season the team is kicking into gear with an early season record of three wins to zero losses. “I am proud of the improvement that the players have made over the last year and how well we have played this season. I hope we can keep that effort going,” Tom Culver said.
