William Wapaha Un Waokiye “Akicita” died Friday, September 1, 2023 at the V.A. Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were Wednesday, September 6 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. Burial was in the Greenwood Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Greenwood, with military honors. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

President Becky Brunsing gave the Rotary Bell a good whack which resulted in an ear-splitting ring that got everyone’s attention immediately. There were two guests present, Chris and Barbara Jacobi from Connecticut. Chris is a nephew of Rotarian Kathe Henke.

LABOR DAY LEGION FLAGS

Wagner Labor Day would not be what it is without the Wagner Legion Greer Post #11. Every year without fail, they gather on the Friday of Labor Day weekend to place the flags up in the park and then take them down Labor Day Monday evening. This year was no exception. Even though it was an extremely hot Labor Day weekend the flags blew beautifully in the park. Members of the Wagner American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and the Wagner American Legion Auxiliary that helped put up and take down the flags were Clayton Rados, Paul Kucera, Jacob Kucera, Barb Kucera, Dennis Merkwan, Melvin Horner, Bruce Specketer, Jay Youngbluth, Don Hubbard, Jerry Seiner, Dave Isebrands, David Link, Tony Krcil, Danny Rezac, Mark Roberts, Linda Roberts, Rylie Roberts, John Crisman, Jim Bastemeyer and Rick Zolnowsky.

WAGNER/LAKE ANDES EMTS CHOSEN AS MODERN WOODMAN 2023 HOMETOWN HEROES

Modern Woodman Chapter 17406 has chosen the Wagner/ Lake Andes ambulance staff to be honored as their 2023 Hometown Heroes: on September 4th before the parade the ambulance staff was treated to coffee and homemade kolaches and muffins. Modern Woodman activities director Marcella Strand presented the crew with a $100 grant to be given to the charity of their choice. The Wagner/Lake Andes ambulance district was formed in 2000 and serves 7 communities in southern Charles Mix County. The district is overseen by a 9 member Board of Directors.
