SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

Mrs. Becky Haenfler, the 5th and 6th grade Language Arts teacher, has been doing a summer reading challenge for several years. Barnes and Nobles offers a summer reading program that requires students to read eight books over the summer and fill out a form to get a free book. In order to go on Mrs. Haenfler’s Barnes and Nobles field trip, students are required to read eight books, complete the Barnes and Nobles form and fill out extra graphic organizers and information that is asked of them.

SWIM TEAM HOLDS TAILGATE FUNDRAISER

The Avon Swim team held a Football Tailgate supper Friday, September 8th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. before the Avon vs. Gayville -Volin home football game. They served walking tacos, homemade desserts and drinks. It was a free-will donation. Coach Becky Haenfler and the swim team parents appreciate Bryce Voigt for donating the chips for the walking tacos. It was a very successful fundraiser, the team raised almost half of their goal. The teams next fundraiser will be coming up yet this month; they will be selling cookie dough.

JR. HIGH VOLLEYBALL A TEAM WINS THE GREAT PLAINS CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

The Avon Junior High Volleyball A team participated in the Great Plains Conference tournament on September 9th. The Great Plains Conference is made up of 12 teams including Burke, Tripp-Delmont/Armour, Scotland, Gayville-Volin, Centerville, Alcester-Hudson, Corsica-Stickney, Andes Central/Dakota Christian, Avon, Colome, Freeman Academy/Marion and Marty. The tournament began with pool play. Avon won all three matches during this part of the tournament.
