Read moreOn Wednesday, June 19, Wagner’s Post 7319 VFW 14U and 16U teeners hosted Parkston. The 14U team struggled to hit and field the ball in this contest as they would fall to the visitors by a score of 12-0. Colton Zephier started on the mound and gave up eight runs, five earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in three innings of work. Landon Ronfeldt came on to pitch the final two frames. He did a nice job of filling up the strike zone but he was also plagued by some porous Wagner defense as all four runs allowed were unearned. He allowed two hits while walking one and hitting two Parkston batters.

Read moreThe Southeast Elite split a double header with the Beresford Watchdogs. In the first game, the Elite struck for 5 runs in the top of the first. Emersyn Haenfler walked and stole second. Rowan Brandt followed with an infield hit. Leah Dewald added another infield hit which scored Emersyn. Brielle Voigt then hit a sharp single to drive in Rowan. Kensley DeVries walked and the final three runs scored on a series of errors and passed balls. In the 3rd, Johanna Namminga started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Leah followed with a triple scoring Johanna. Brielle and Kensley walked and Raegan Brandt drove in two runs with a single. In the fourth Emersyn singled, Rowan, Leah, and Brielle walked and Kensley drove in two with a double. The Elite ended up prevailing by a score of 14-5. Leah DeWald and Emersyn Haenfler combined for the win. In game two, the Elite scored two in the first when Emersyn was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a single by Leah. Brielle Voigt then hit a single to score Leah. In the 3rd, Johanna was hit by a pitch, Leah reached on an error, Brielle and Rowan walked and Raegan drove in two with a single. The Elite could not hold the lead and end up losing by a score of 13-6. Kensley DeVries and Sydney Johnson were on the hill for the Elite. The Elite’s record stands at 16-16.

They were able to hold off a potential Mt. Vernon rally in the bottom of the 3rd and took away a 14-2 victory. Avon was led at the plate by Lydia Yost who had 3 hits, including a double, and 5 RBI. Emma Yost and Kaydence Metzger both had 2 hits. Rilyn Thury, Ravyn Medricky, Lexi Vanderlei, and Emily Dewald all had a hit in the game. L. Yost pitched for Avon. She struck out 5 in the contest on the way to the win.
