The Wagner Red Raider wrestling team began their season with a triangular in Avon against Bon Homme/ Avon and Vermillion. Their next upcoming meet will be Thursday, December 12th in Winner against Winner/ Gregory.The Raiders will once again be coached by Head Coach David Kocer, who is in his fifth year of coaching. Team members include juniors Gannon Knebel, Octavian Kocer, and Trey. Sophomore team member is Kingston Brunelle. Bennet Kuhlman, Richie Turner, Wade Kreeger, Jaylen Drapeau, Bodie Chafin and Khalil Segura are freshmen on the team. Eighth graders on the team are Frank Krcil, Hunter Wiechmann, Jaxton Hill, Thane Tjeerdsma, Colin Brown Bear, Wesley Holzbauer, Grady Bartunek and Tom Krcil. Seventh graders that are a part of the team are Luke Holzbauer, Mason Turner and Tristan Cournoyer. Sixth graders include Hayes Bartunek, Weston Koupal, Finnigan Hopkins, Grayson Knebel, Rider Insko and Witten Holzbauer With this year’s team being very young, having several up and comers and one upper classmen with state tournament experience anything can happen. Gannon Knebel is the most experienced wrestler that the Raiders will have. Knebel is only a junior, but shows great pois and will be looked at as one of the team’s leaders. Knebel is a returning state runner-up and has his sights set on the top of the podium come the end of February.

Returning sophomores for this season are Jesse Zephier, Carlos Galindo, Javian Pesicka and Leon Fields. Cruise Koupal will be the lone freshman returning for the Raiders.

Junior team members are Kashton Garcia, Takota Medicine Horn and Isaiah Milk. Jamian Medicine Horn and Edward Ulrich are the team’s sophomore members. Up and coming freshmen team members include Jack Backes and Israel Brown.

Peyton is a four-time state champion with a 42-0 record last season and a career record of 146-9. Peyton is ranked number four nationally by USA Wrestling forHighSchoolgirls’wrestlers in the 135-pound weight class. Ashleybroughthome8thplace at last year’s state tournament and finished her season with a record of 18-20. Juniors on the BHSA’s girls wrestling team are Britney Rueb and Hope Kemnitz. Britney is a threetime state champion, one time state runner-up, finished last year’sseasonwitha28-2record andhasacurrentcareerrecord of 121-9. Britney is ranked number 28 by USA Wrestling in the National Rankings for High School girl wrestlers in her weight class of 130 pounds. Hope Kemnitz qualified for last season’s state tournament and ended the season with a 11-16 record. Hadlee Kracht and Jasmine Rueles-Hertz are sophomores on the team. Hadlee placed 8th at the state tournament last season and ended her season with a 31-17 record. Baily Kemnitz is a freshman team member. The team also has two seventh graders Sydney Johnson and Harper Kracht.
