MERKWAN RECOGNIZED

American Education Week was November 15th-19th. Wagner Community School and the Wagner Education Association recognize individuals or organizations who contribute their time and effort to support our students, and staff and make our school a better place of learning. This year’s recipients of the “Friends of Education” Award goes to Dennis and Mary Merkwan. Thank you for your years of support on the school board and as a paraprofessional and all the little things you have done for the staff and students.

WAGNER ORAL INTERP WINS REGION 2A

Kathryn Doom, Jennifer Barnett, Trenton Rolston, Jackson Rolston, Presley Slaba, and Macee Stimpson are headed to State Oral Interp! On Monday, November 15th, Wagner traveled to Chamberlain to compete in our Region 2A Meet at the Cedar Shore Resort. We competed against teams from Bon Homme, Chamberlain, and Winner. We took our 1st place winners from our district meet, held on November 1st, and competed in the following categories: Non-Original Oratory, Poetry, Storytelling, Humor, Serious, Duet, and Reader’s Theater.

WAGNER RED RAIDER FOOTBALL PLAYERS RECOGNIZED

After a 6-4 season the Wagner Red Raider football team had three players selected to the 11B all-state team. Nolan Dvorak was selected as the 1st team TE. Nolan had 52 receptions for 600 yards and 6 touchdowns. Dustin Honomichl was selected as the 1st team Athlete. He was 129-202 passing for 1676 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed for 356 yards and 8 touchdowns. And Chris Nelson was selected honorable mention special teams player. He was the teams long snapper and from that position made 7 tackles on punts. He also returned 10 kicks for 250 yards for a average of 25.0 yards a return, 7 punts for 98 yards for 14 yard a return average.

Library news

The New Year will be bringing back the Lake Andes Library Book Club. We stopped meeting when the COVID pandemic made it unsafe to meet. Plans right now are to start meeting in January 2022 to discuss the first selection. If you are interested, please contact the library for more information. The Book Club uses book club selections from Libraries across the state of South Dakota, so the only cost is for postage to return the books.

ANDES CENTRAL FFA ATTEND DISTRICT IV LDE CONTEST

Andes Central FFA participated in the District IV Leadership Development Contest on November 15th at Mitchell Technical College. These students participated in Employment Skills, Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Creed Speaking, and Ag Broadcasting. District IV officer interviews were held for the 2021-22 officer team. A huge shout out to Riata Bultje who was selected as the District IV Secretary! She was one of 21 FFA members from 11 schools competing for 6 positions. Great job representing Andes Central School!

DELORES J. ANDERSON

Delores J. Anderson, daughter of Harold and Ellen Holzbauer, was born in Wagner on January 30, 1940 and died peacefully at Majestic Bluffs Nursing home in Yankton, on November 13, 2021.
