AUXILIARY SELECTS GIRL'S STATE REPRESENTATIVE

The Avon American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Arthur Wisman Unit #150 has selected their 2024 Girl’s State Representatives. They will be sending three to Girl’s State including Carmindy Ferwerda, Maesa Kuhlman, and Ella Small. Girl’s State will be held the week of June 3rd – June 8th at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. This is the 77th year for the annual event. Girl’s State is a part of the ALA’s summer leadership and citizenship programs. The event is open to junior girls going into their senior year. The goal of this event is to open youngwomen’smindsandeyes to the mechanics of the American government, journalism, and politics for education and for potential future careers in those fields.

5TH AND 6TH GRADERS PUT ON BOOK PARADE AND PRESIDENTIAL WAX MUSEUM

The 5th and 6th graders put on a book parade and Presidential Wax Museum March 19th from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Wagner Community School Auxiliary gym. The 5th graders did a book parade. Each student read a book and then was asked to highlight certain parts of the story and create a book ball. At the event, the students shared what book they read and talked about different aspects of the book. The 6th graders put on a Presidential Wax Museum where each student did a presentation on an individual United State’s President. Their presentations included facts about each president, pictures, etc. all neatly put together on a large poster board. Again, people could stop at each student’s table and ask questions or engage with the students about their chosen president.

WILBUR SLABA

Funeral services for Wilbur Slaba will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner, with military honors. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, with a Rosary/Scripture Wake service at 7 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
