The 605 Unity Team is working on the final parts involved with hosting the 4th Annual 605 Unity Jam, that will be held on Sunday, June 9 at the Wagner Lake in Wagner, S.D.. The event will feature a: Youth Pow Wow, Corn Hole Tournament and Spike Ball Tournament for teens, Cardboard Box Boat Regatta, Kolache Eating Contest, a Corn hole Tournament for adults, Youth Fishing Clinic and Fishing Derby, Traditional Czech dancing demonstration, a variety of arts and craft venders, from the area and beyond, a variety of food stands and seven different musical acts featured throughout the day. The day will begin with an outdoor church service at the Wagner Lake park at 10:30 a.m., followed by the official starting the the event at 12:00 noon. The primary purpose of the event is to help increase cultural awareness, understanding, acceptance and appreciation for all cultures.
Read moreThe American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is honoring Jim Bastemeyer as this month’s Veteran of the Month. Bastemeyer is a Vietnam and Cold War Veteran. Jim served in the National Guard from 1971 until 1977. The war with Vietnam ended in 1973 and the Cold War ended in 1991. Bastemeyer joined the National Guard in 1971 while he was still a junior in high school. He had six other classmates that also joined the Wagner National Guard Unit that same yer. Jim attended both boot camp and his Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Knox, KY August 10th – December 17th of 1971. He received his AIT training as a supply clerk.

The refuge is comprised of 5,639 acres of refuge land and 4,700 acres of lake. It was first created when President Franklin Roosevelt signed a Presidential Executive Order in 1936 which allowed for the purchase of the first 365 acres of land in the Owen’s Bay Area.
Read moreThis year under the direction of our new Wagner City Finance Administrator, Debbie Houseman, there was a city employee appreciation luncheon held April 17th at Wagner City Hall. Debbie invited the library, police department and city staff to all come and have lunch as a way to show appreciation to all of the deserving city employees. Debbie was also very creative and wrote a little something to acknowledge each employee.
Read moreThe Wagner Red Raiders hosted the Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy Phoenix on Monday April 22nd and came up short losing 6-15. Wagner tied the game in the bottom of the first 3-3 with singles by Lydia Yost and Ravyn Medricky. Lydia Yost scored with a nice RBI by Brylie Link. Libby Kotab hit a line drive to left field scoring Sydney Cournoyer, who got on by walk, and Medricky. In the bottom of the 4th Hannah Holzbauer singled on a line drive to center. Kayden Zephier reached 2nd after a hard ground ball and an error by the defense, scoring Holzbauer on the same play. Lydia Yost added a double on a line drive to left field, but her and Zephier were both left on base to end the inning. To bring the score within one Link reached on an error by the first basemen, Kotab walked, Brooklin Nielsen singled, and Mia Dion singled as well scoring Link and Kotab. Yost and Braxton Nedved added a base hit, advancing runners, but were all left on. The Phoenix had an inning of good hits and ran away with the lead in the top of the 6th. Hannah Holzbauer pitched for Wagner, striking out five and walking seven. The defense played a solid game and really worked together turning two double plays.

Hannah Holzbauer started in the circle for the Raiders allowing five hits and walking seven. In the third inning Braxton Nedved came in to relieve Holzbauer, allowing two hits, walking three, and striking out one.
