At the American Legion monthly meeting held Thursday, June 20th, several students from the Wagner Community School were invited to give short presentations after the dinner. Frank Soukup and Carter Smejkal were asked to speak on their experiences at Boys State. Both students said that they really enjoyed their time at Boys State and made some really good friends while being a part of the experience. Carter and Frank said that they would definitely recommend Boys State to the incoming juniors. Daniel Soukup as one of the American Legion scholarship winners was also invited to the dinner before the meeting. Daniel thanked the American Legion for awarding him one of their scholarships and spoke about how he was going to be attending Mitchell Tech this fall where he will receive his associate’s degree as an electrician.
Read moreAfter 42 years of teaching, Paula Vilhauer has decided to retire from the teaching profession. Paula began teaching in 1982. She was fresh out of college with her Bachelors of Science degree in education from Black Hills State University and had done her student teaching in Belle Fourche when she took her first teaching position. Paula’s first teaching job was on the Pine Ridge Reservation in Kyle. She then taught at Wanblee Marty Indian School before taking a position with the Wagner Community School District. Paula spent 24 years teaching at WCS before she decided it was time to retire.
