WITH IMPEACHMENT BEHIND US

The Senate recently voted to acquit the president of the two Articles of Impeachment sent to us by the House of Representatives, falling 19 and 20 votes short of the 67 needed to remove him from office. I voted against the articles of impeachment, in keeping with the constitutional intent our framers expected.

GYMNASTICS TEAM HEADING TO STATE

Wagner Bon Homme Varsity Scored a 123.70 at Region Meet on February 7. This is their season best! They started off on the floor by capturing the entire audience. These girls OWNED the floor! Of all seven teams, Wagner Bon Homme earned the highest team score on the floor. They earned 34.075; in 2nd place was Parkston Ethan Hansen with a 33.55, Chamberlain with a 33.425 and Hot Springs rounded out the top 4 with a 33.15. Keeping the girls with high energy and them staying tight throughout their entire routine proved to keep their scores competitive. Alcista Dion and Alexys Rueb both placed in the top 6 while Jenna Duffek was the Floor runner up this evening! Way to go girls! The girls also earned their season best team score on the bars! They were still 4th in in team standings on this event; but each gymnast raised her individual bar score by almost a full point and some; even more. We will continue to work their connections and holding the correct body shape throughout each skill they perform. On the vault, the Wagner Bon Homme girls were 2nd, earning a team score of 33.675 we fell only to Parkston Ethan Hansen by 6 tenths of a point. Alexys Rueb, Jenna Duffek, and Alcista Dion all placed in the top 13 with Alcista Dion winning the Vault! She is the 2020 Region 2A Vault Champion! The beam, however, is where they REALLY slipped. We had to count 5 team falls on beam. Each fall is half a point. We lost 2.5 points on beam due to falls. They fell to 5th place on beam. Had they been able to stay on the beam; they would have been pushed up to 3rd. Needless to say; we will be working extra hard on beam and continuing to work hard on bars this week as we help them prepare for the state tournament this upcoming weekend. Please help me in congratulating these YOUNG girls thus far this season. Having a varsity team comprised of two 7th graders that have never been in gymnastics before; two 8th graders, 2 freshman, 1 sophomore, and 1 Junior has been such a blessing and such a learning experience for us all. These girls have so much ability. We are excited to see how they come out at state.

ACT PREP COURSE TO BE OFFERED TO AREA JUNIORS

At this time of the year we find many students thinking seriously about what their future holds and what will be needed to help make their dream job become a reality. Many find themselves wondering if they will be ready to deal successfully with what will be expected of them as they look towards the end of high school and what comes after. As with every generation, some students will be confident they are ready when they leave school to successfully compete for opportunities while others sometimes fear they will be unprepared for the next step in life.

ALWAYS AMAZED

Since signing on with South Dakota Center of Farm/Ranch Management, I have come to some realizations. 1) I get to travel in some of the most beautiful country as I traverse the Missouri and Cheyenne River hills. 2) I enjoy working with adults as much as high school students. 3) A person that is quite detail oriented in certain aspects of their operation can be quite lackadaisical in other aspects of their operation. The area of the operation where I witness this behavior the most is the feeding of the beef cow herd. This information has not necessarily been gleaned from the people I work with on a regular basis, but from conversations I have overheard at coffee shops, gas stations, and other gathering spots.
