National Police Week is observed this year on May 15th through May 21st. This is a week that offers honor, remembrance, and peer support for police officers. Police officers deserve to be honored and recognized for their dedication and hard work for their communities. Police Chief, Theodore Smith, is the lone officer of theAvonPoliceDepartment. Police Chief Smith has been in his current position for almost seven months in Avon. What Chief Smith enjoys most about being a part of law enforcement is the opportunity that the job allows him to make a difference in the community. Smith’s grandfather was the Chief of Police in Sturgis while Smith was growing up. Listening to his grandfather’s experiences as a police officer and chief stirred an interest in Smith. Smith also has his own personal training and experienceinlawenforcement from his training while in the National Guard. These are the top two reasons that Smith chose a career in law enforcement.

Avon pulled closeronaninsidetheparkHR by Rilyn Thury. That ended the scoring threat for Avon. Kaydence Metzger and Macy Voigt were on the hill for the Lady Pirates. Thury and Macy Voigt each collected two hits with Thury collecting both RBI’s.
