I’ve always thought that neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night could keep a Norwegian from a plate of lutefisk, but this year has challenged that belief. COVID-19 forced the cancellation of family holiday get-togethers and community celebrations across the state, including the venerable Summit Lutefisk Supper. This would have been the 82nd annual feast and tribute to the finicky fish that both unites a culture and serves as punch line to countless jokes like this one: Did you know that the first person to fly an airplane solo across the Atlantic Ocean was not Charles Lindbergh but a Norwegian pilot from Minnesota? Unfortunately, his plane carried a cargo of lutefisk, so no one met him at the airport.

Donald “Don” Jackson was born on April 28, 1938 to the late Basil Tappan and Evelyn (Blomgren) Jackson of the Pipestone area. Don accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1955 and was baptized in 1963 in Windom, MN.

The Flower Shop/Mensch Retail Greenhouse has been offering wreath and pot classes. The classes have been limited to five to allow for social distancing and keeping everyone safe. Carol Tolsma reported having two wreath classes and three pot classes last week with a few private classes being held during the week. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the Avon City crew was busy last week hanging Christmas decorations on Main Street. The month of December won't be the same though as the annual Parade of Lights has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
