Zylstra announces his passing at age 79 on Thursday, December 3, 2020 while in hospice care at the Good Samaritan Society in Wagner, due to medical complications unrelated to Covid-19. Harold Van Roekel of Goodlettsville, TN (formerly of Corsica/Wagner) passed away November 13 at Skyline Hospital in Nashville. Harold was born to Henry and Anna Van Roekel on November 24, 1934 at Timber Lake. On May 25, 1956, Harold married Marion Hoffman. They were married for 64 years. The couple had a son, Perry Van Roekel and a daughter, Kimberly Van Roekel.

Today, December 4th, marks the 101st anniversary of the day South Dakota ratified the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which recognized that women have the right to vote. Though the date may not serve as a formal holiday, this particular Governor thinks it’s worth remembering in a special way. South Dakota would be a very different state, and the country a very different place, without it.
