LYDIA ANTELOPE
Lydia Antelope, 75, of Lake Andes, died Thursday, November 7 at her home in Lake Andes. Funeral services were Monday, November 11 at the White Swan Community Center in Lake Andes. Burial was in the Cedar Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Lake Andes. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Lydia was born to David Roy Medicine Bear and Elsie Elizabeth (Good Teacher) Medicine Bear on March 14, 1949 in Greenwood. She had two sisters, Bernice Medicine Bear and Clarice (Medicine Bear) St. Pierre.
Lydia attended school up to the 9th grade in Ravinia. She later received her GED in Montana. She held many jobs throughout her life, working at the Lake Andes nursing home, Armour nursing home, Fort Randall Casino and the Yankton Sioux Tribe Head Start.
She loved to sing, especially out of the Dakota Odowan and with the Young Adults. She enjoyed her music and dancing. Her favorite dancing partners were Myrtle Bruguier and Linsy Nelson.
Lydia married Alphonze Flying Hawk in 1964 and to this union two daughters were born, Monica Lynn and Meredith (Mary) Leslie. She later married Edward (Eddie) Antelope in 1989. Together they had two daughters, Nancy Rose and Tanya Ranae.
Lydia loved her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. She also loved and thought a lot of her nieces and nephews: Cindy, Lynn, Shelly, Keith, Randy, Myron, Bruce and Jerry. She loved spending time with her sister Bernice. She will be missed dearly.
Lydia is survived by her children: Mary, Nancy, and Tanya; her grandchildren: Alphonse, Uriah, Elsie, little Lydia, Clarice, Harry, Keisha, Tina, Mia, Destiny, little Mary, Barbara, Canaan, Ellery, Mackenzie, Jaydon, Da’Mais, and many great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; her sister Bernice Medicine Bear; her nieces and nephews and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Elsie Medicine Bear; her sister Clarice; daughter Monica; nephew Myron; grandchildren Shyla, Tahleah, and Robin.
