The Red Raider JV defeated ACDC Thursday night in Wagner. The Red Raiders played good defense early and got a 10-3 lead after the first period. ACDC kept the game close the rest of the way but never got a lead. Wagner led 21-17 at the half and then held the Thunder to just 2 points in the third period making the score 3419 heading into the fourth quarter. Wagner won the game by a final score of 50-26. Joey Cournoyer led the team with 17 points, Parker Petry scored 13, Jesse Zephier added 9, Braxton Knudsen scored 7 and Preston McFayden scored 5. The Wagner JV improves it record to 11-3.

Wagner scored 24 points in the second period and opened a 20 point lead heading into half time. Wagner held ACDC to just 5 points in the third period and led 62-28 heading into the final quarter. ACDC made a few runs late in the game and cut into the Red Raider lead, Wagner won by a final score of 7047. Chris Nelson led the team with 18 points, Carter Cournoyer added 16. Parker Petry and Matt Link each scored 10, Ted Slaba scored 7, Joey Cournoyer 5, Theron Zephier 3 and Braxton Knudsen 1. The Red Raiders play again Tuesday night in Armour for a chance to win the LMVC Conference.

Wagner would win by a finale of 77-33. Wagner would shoot 57% from the field 32-56 while the Cubs were 10-27 for 33%. Wagner would collect 26 boards compared to 16 from Chamberlain. The Cubs would commit 26 turnovers compared to just 4 from the Raiders. Wagner would dish out 28 assists. Ashlyn Koupal led all scorers with 29 points, 7 boards, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Emma Yost would follow that with 18 points, 8 boards, 6 assists, and 4 blocks. Shalayne Nagel would record a double-double with 16 points, 4 boards, 10 steals and 2 assists. Macy Koupal would be the 4th Raider in double figures with 10 points, 4 boards, while dishing out a team high 9 assists. Lydia Yost would finish the scoring with 7 points, 3 boards, 3 steals, and 4 assists. Eve Zephier would dish out 3 assists. “A great effort again defensively only allowing 2 made field goals the first half. We move the basketball on offense getting 28 assists on 32 made shots. This was the final home regular season game for our three Seniors! I can’t say enough about these three young ladies! They represent our team, school, and community with highest regards. It will be a lot of fun to follow them the next few years at the collegiate level at DWU and Mt. Marty. With one more regular season game on the road in Platte, and then on to Region play where we will host Tuesday February 21st in Wagner.”

The Raiders would start out fast taking a commanding 28-2 lead into the second period and push the lead to 45-11 at halftime. Wagner would win in dominant fashion with a 71-28 victory. With this win Wagner would also claim the Little Missouri Valley Conference title. Leading all scorers would be Ashlyn Koupal with 21 points, 8 boards, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Emma Yost with another double-double with 19 points, 16 boards and 2 assists. Shalayne Nagel would be the third Raider in double figures with 14 points, 5 boards, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Lydia Yost would finish with 9 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Eve Zephier would tally 4 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists. Macy Koupal would finish with 2 points, 5 boards and 2 steals. Hayden Fischer would round out the scoring with 2 points. Wagner was 28-61 from the floor for 46% while TDA was 11-40 for 28%. Wagner was 12-16 from the line while TDA was 2-6. Wagner dominated the glass with a 41-20 advantage. They would commit 5 turnovers compared to 17 from TDA. “This was a great game for us to try some new things defensively that we found would be effective from the Viborg-Hurley game. The girls worked hard on it in practice on Monday an executed it very effectively in this game. Offensively we did a nice job executing different sets and getting out into transition. Congratulations to the girls for being back to back LMVC conference champs!”
