Read moreOn Monday, February 6, Wagner hosted the AC/DC Thunder for a pair of middle school basketball games at the Armory. In the 7th grade game, the Raiders got out to a fast start and built an 11 point lead after the first quarter. They continued to push the ball and were very aggressive taking the ball to the hoop, which led to them getting to shoot a lot of free throws. After the 2nd quarter ended, the Raiders had a lead of 21-6. The Raiders continued to keep their defensive pressure up in the second half and cruised to a 42-16 victory. The Raiders now stand at 7-3 on the season. Leading scorers were Cruise Koupal with 14, Steven Peof ters with 13, Brock Cournoyer with 9, Payne Petry with 4, and Jacob Kotab and Brannon Bruguier each added a point.

Read moreThe Wagner 7th grade boys’ basketball hosted the Kimball-White Lake Wildkats for a game at the Armory on Friday, February 10. They faced the Wildkats earlier in the season, but this time the Wildkats brought a combined 7/8 grade team that proved to be more a challenge. The Raiders got off to a fast start and built a 7-2 lead early in the game. The Wildkats stormed back to tie the game and eventually took a 12-10 lead into the half over the Raiders. The Raiders settled down offensively and ran through the offense better to start the 2nd half and regained the lead and pushed it up to 7 points. The Wildkats made another run and made some huge 3 pointers to tie the game up with under 2 minutes to go. The Raiders responded as Payne Petry made basket in the post to regain the lead. After a big defensive stop, the Raiders pushed the ball down court and Cruise Koupal found an open Brannon Bruguier for a basket to extend the Raiders lead to 4. The Raiders got another stop defensively and were then able to run out the clock for a 28-24 victory. The win moved the Raiders record to 8-3 on the season. Leading scorers for the Raiders were Payne Petry and Cruise Koupal each with 9, Steven Peters with 5, Brannon Bruguier with 4 and Brock Cournoyer with 1. Both the 7th and 8th grade teams are in action again on February 14, against Bon Homme in the Auxiliary Gym at the school.
Read moreThe Wagner JV avenged a loss from last season on Tuesday night as the defeated the Knighthawks 44-24. The Red Raiders held TDA to just 1 first quarter point and led 23-11 at the half. The Knighthawks never gave up and cut into the lead in the third quarter closing the gap to 28-20 but a strong offensive performance in the final period allowed Wagner to seal the victory. Jesse Zephier led the way with 15 points, Joey Cournoyer scored 14, Parker Petry added 7, Preston McFayden, Frank Soukup, Brady Cournoyer, and Braxton Knudsen each scored 2. Wagner’s JV team is now 12-3 on the season.
Read moreThe Wagner Red Raiders traveled to Armour on Tuesday night to play for the LMVC Conference championship against the TDA Nighthawks. Wagner started off shooting the ball well and took a 21-14 lead after the first period. The Red Raiders extended their lead by 4 in the second quarter outscoring TDA 18-14 in the period, Wagner took a 39-28 lead into half time. TDA played lock down defense in the third quarter holding Wagner to just 2 points, outscoring Wagner 15-2 and led 43-41 heading into the fourth period. Wagner fought back, with 4.7 seconds left Preston McFayden hit a 3 pointer to send the game into overtime. TDA outscored Wagner in OT 8-4 and won the game 65-61. Wagner was led by Parker Petry who scored 14 points, Ted Slaba added 13, Matt Link scored 8, Chris Nelson and Preston McFayden each scored 7, Carter Cournoyer 6, Glenn Cournoyer 4 and Joey Cournoyer 2. Wagner is now 6-9 on the year.
