The Wagner Lady Red Raiders traveled to Dakota Christian on Saturday, October 24th for pool play at the SESD tourney. Wagner lost to Bon Homme first round with scores of 22-25 and 17-25. Then Wagner faced Parkston and lost a tighter match with scores of 24-26 and 23-25
Read moreThe Wagner Volleyball team traveled to take on the Winner Lady Warriors on Tuesday, October 20th. Although the Lady Red Raiders fell short they played with great energy and communication. Scores of the match were 25-27, 15-25, and 16-25. Outside hitter Abby Brunsing threw down 17 kills and Avari Bruguier added 7 kills. Setter Macy Koupal dished out 25 assists on the night. Defensively Bruguier scrambled for 14 digs, Olivia Breen had 10, and Brunsing added 7. Shona Kocer blocked well at the net with 2 solo blocks and Bruguier added 1 as well. The Red Raiders served aggressively with Koupal earning 3 aces and 7 points and Brunsing with 3 aces and 4 points.

Senior Abby Brunsing led the hitters with 10 kills and Freshmen Shona Kocer added 7 kills. Macy Koupal dished out 18 assists on the night. In the back-court Oliva Breen picked up 8 digs while Avari Bruguier added 7. Bruguier also tallied one solo block in the match.

Tom Larson, my East Men’s Hall roommate, and I were returning on foot to the SDSC campus in Brookings after a few games of snooker and ten-cent beers at B&G billiards, otherwise known as Gussie’s. I was on the football team, and we either had an open date or I didn’t make the traveling squad for a game that required air travel. Little did I know that something so insignificant could bring about a monumental event in the course of my life.

The girls’ team took second place scoring 13 points behind a talented Burke team who had a score of nine. Alcester-Hudson was third. Placers for the Lady Thunder runners were Isabella Brouwer 3rd (20:19), Lexi Schoenfelder 6th (22:12), and Sonya Hansum 10th (23:36).
