Read moreThe Lady Raiders opened-up the 2020-2021 basketball season with the reigning champs who are riding a 48-game winning streak. Winner came out very physical and took a commanding lead after the first quarter 26-5 and would win by a score of 74-27. Wagner would shoot 8-32 from the field for 25% while Winner would go 29-63 for 46%. Wagner would hit 8-10 from the line while Winner would go 6-11. Wagner would get our rebounded 14-35 and commit 26 turnovers compared to only 5 from Winner. Macy Koupal would score 6 points and grab 2 boards. Jayla Bruguier would add 5 points. CayDynce Olson would chip in 4 and grab 2 boards. Ashlyn Koupal would also add 4 points. Abby Brunsing finished with 3 points and 5 rebounds. Eve Zephier and Sydney Cournoyer would each add 2 and Avari Bruguier would finish with 1. “Winner is a very good team that used a lot of physical play against us on both ends of the court. We are a very young team that needs to learn from what happened in this game and continue to work on little correctible errors. The biggest one that stands out is rebounding and limiting turnovers. They shot 31 more times than us and had more offensive rebounds than our total.”

Wagner played well and hung kept the score close the entire game against a good Winner team. The Warriors took a 15-14 lead after the first period and Wagner trailed 32-28 at the half. Winner expanded its lead by one point in the third quarter leading 44-39. Wanger made some shots down the stretch to cut the lead down to three points at times in the fourth quarter but never tied the game or got a lead. Winner made a few free throws at the end of the game making the final score 56-49. Nolan Carda led the way for Wagner scoring 14 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Dustin Honomichl finished with 10 points, Toby Zephier scored 6 and grabbed 6 rebounds, Simon Freier scored 6 points and had 7 rebounds, Marcus Zephier added 6 points, Chris Nelson 5 and Jaden Peters 2. Jaden Peters had a great game defensively as he was asked to guard one of the best players in Class A and held him under his average points per game. Wagner will be in action at Irene Wakanda on Tuesday night.
