Charles Mix County and Bon Homme County 4-H’ers gathered for a joint horse show Wednesday, June 30th at the 7-N Arena west of Springfield. All those participating are now qualified to participate at the South Dakota State Horse Show in Huron July 19-21 in Huron.

Read moreThe Indian Health Service facility in Wagner has gained attention due to their high vaccination rate which brought acting IHS Director Elizabeth Fowler to make Wagner her first stop Thursday. Fowler wanted to see firsthand the work that IHS employees are doing to support community immunity from a deadly virus that has taken more than 600,000 lives across the United States. The visit was to show support for President Biden’s Month of Action. The focus this month is on actions to make it easier to get vaccinated, mobilize the country around vaccine outreach and education efforts and incentive vaccination. The National Month of Action mobilizes an all-of-American sprint to get as many U.S. adults as possible to get at least one shot by July 4th, so that more people can get the protection they need to be safe from the pandemic.
Read moreThe Avon Public Library Summer Reading Program met for their second session on June 21st. There were 33 children and a dozen adults in attendance. The guest reader, Anthony Pacheco from Canton, Michigan read, “Fidgety Fish and Friends.” The children enjoyed sand pudding cups decorated with an ocean scene. Participants also continued work on their Young Author’s Workshop projects. This week’s winners were Raegan, Roslyn, and Dayton Brandt. Thank you to Avon Community Bank, Deb and Nyla’s, and Walter Construction for generous donations to our program.

Mohan Chaudhari and Rajesh Patel purchased the motel and have been busy with remodeling efforts and general updating in order to make their new business venture a destination site for travelers coming to Charles Mix County.
