Read moreJoe Stedronsky of the Wagner Rotary Club was recently honored at the 2023 Rotary District 5610 Conference held in Yankton, SD at the end of September. Joe was nominated for the Rotarian of Distinction Award for Area 6 by Assistant Governor, Bill Frei. This award goes to Rotarians that stand out in service to their community and to Rotary. Joe shared some memories and history of his time as a Rotary member in the Wagner Club when he spent an afternoon with Assistant Governor, Bill Frei.
Read moreAs of September 19th, there is a new director of Wagner Area Growth, Margaret Doom. Margaret will be full-time in her role as Wagner Area Growth Director, unlike her predecessor, Michele Juffer, who was part-time in the position. What really drew Doom to wanting to take the director position was that she would be able to return to Wagner, which she had been hoping to have the opportunity to do and the beautiful bicultural diversity that embodies Wagner. She sees the unique blend of Czech and Native American cultures in Wagner that has created this community and wants to help strengthen this blend of cultures to make Wagner an even better place to live.
Read moreThe Wagner American Legion Auxiliary 2023 Girl’s State representative was Jenny Barnett. She attended the annual Girl’s State event held at the University of South Dakota (USD) campus in Vermillion. Girl’s State is a week-long event that began the week of May 29th. At the October monthly meeting of the Wagner American Legion Auxiliary, Jenny and her family were invited to the supper held before each monthly meeting. During the Auxiliary meeting, Jenny gave a brief speech about how her week went and experiences at Girl’s State. She thanked the Auxiliary for sending her to Girl’s State and informed them that her experience made a difference in potential college majors. She may have a career in politics or government one day because of the eye-opening experience she had while at Girl’s State.

Read moreOn Monday, October 16, the Avon volleyball team had their “Dig Pink” night, an event where fans and players alike wore pink shirts. Many people watched the match, both in person and online. The Pirates played well, but lost to Ethan in 3 sets.
Read moreAlso on October 14th, the high school band, along with director Autumn Schultz and parent Matt Grant, attended part of Hobo Days in Brookings. They were able to witness the Hobo Days parade, at which many marching bands performed. They saw bands with as few as 20 people and in contrast, very large marching bands as well. After the parade, they attended the football game, where SDSU dominated the UNI Panthers. When asked about her experience, Erica Cahoy stated, “It was fun to see all the different local bands come out to the parade and to see what a college marching band looks like.”
