PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Arts Council (SDAC) is now accepting sponsor applications for its Artists in Schools and Communities (AISC) program, which provides matching grants to schools, arts councils, and other nonprofit organizations to host artists-in-residence between July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023.

The Annual Big and Little Dance held Monday, March 30th, had a big turnout and was successful in raising money for the Music Department. The kids had a blast dancing the night away and making memories with friends, classmates, parents and guardians. Thank you for the fun night, Avon Music Department!

Lake Andes Fire Department received their Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) mask this weekend. This was a joint grant between Charles Mix and Douglas County. The grant was an AFGE grant that was awarded in 2021. Lake Andes received six SCBA and Ravinia received three SCBA.

Alec and Sierra (Svatos) Weber are excited to announce the birth of their daughter Clare Josephine Weber on March 15th, 2022. She was born at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton at 3:43 p.m. weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces.

On July 1st, 2021, under initiated measure 26, medical marijuana became legal in South Dakota and since then Ruth Bouza, of Wagner, has put in a lot of hours to see her new business plan come to fruition. Bouza is opening a medical marijuana dispensary in Wagner and the ground breaking ceremony took place recently on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
