On March 7th, at 12:34 p.m., members of the Avon Fire Department responded to their first grass fire of the new year at a farm southeast of Avon. Prior to arrival, the landowner was able to keep the fire from spreading to a row of trees. The perimeter of the fire was quickly extinguished, but the Avon Fire Department remained on scene until three large round hay bales that were on fire were on longera threat.

In March the Tyndall Fire Department was given $3,000 and Avon, Springfield, Scotland and Tabor Fire Departments received $2,000 each.
