WILD GAME – IT’S WHAT’S FOR DINNER

Betsy and I just finished our elk meatloaf dinner. On the average, wild game will probably grace our table three times a week. Betsy is a great cook, but not what I’d call a gourmet chef. There’s nothing fancy about our “fat of the land” meals. I am often amused by the detailed recipes I find for wild game, venison in particular, in my hunting magazines and on TV outdoor channels. It’s almost like they are trying to disguise what is being served. I hope I don’t bore you by telling you how we do it.

SEEING SHADOWS

Did the groundhog see his shadow this year? Every year on February 2, people gather in the small town of Punxsutawney in western Pennsylvania to observe the annual Groundhog Day ceremony. If the groundhog does see his shadow, he may retreat to his den and winter will last another six weeks. If he does not see his shadow, spring may arrive early.

WAGNER TAKES ON MVP

The Red Raider boys played MVP on Tuesday night at home. Wagner shot the ball well early making their first 5 three point attempts and led 22-15 after the first quarter. MVP played well in the second period erasing the deficit, leading 34-32 at half time. The Red Raiders played hard in the second half but MVP was too much for them, the Titans expanded their lead and won the game over Wagner 73-55. Dustin Honomichl scored a team high 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Toby Zephier added 11 points and had 4 steals, Matt Link added 6 points, Ted Slaba 5, Preston McFayden 4, Chris Nelson 3 and Glenn Cournoyer 2.

WAGNER JV PLAYS MVP

The Red Raider JV team played a close game with the Titans on Tuesday. Wagner trailed 13-12 after 1 period and led 20-19 at half time. The score was tied 29-29 after 3 quarters, both teams offense picked it up in the final period but the Titans had a little more in the tank and won the game 52-47.

WAGNER WINS C GAME

The Red Raiders won their first C game of the season on Tuesday night against MVP. Wagner led 15-13 after the first period and 26-18 at the half. The Red Raiders built on their lead in the second half and won the game 44-34. Parker Petry led the team with 13 points, Braxton Knudsen added 11, Christian Doom scored 6, Gabe Houseman scored 5, Caleb Zephier 4, Brady Cournoyer 3 and Treyson Zephier 2.

RED RAIDERS FALL TO SCOTLAND AT THE BUZZER

Wagner started off slow Thursday night against Scotland but gave themselves chances to win late. Wagner fell behind 14-12 after the first period and trailed 26-23 at half time. Scotland held a 36-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period Wagner came storming back scoring 16 points and forcing the game into overtime. The Red Raiders had a 1 point lead with 9 second left, Scotland came down and hit a shot as time expired to win the game 56-55. Chris Nelson scored 18 points and had 3 steals for Wagner. Dustin Honomichl also scored 18 points and had 9 rebounds, Toby Zephier scored 13 points and had 4 assists, Matt Link, Camden Roth and Carter Cournoyer each scored 2 points.
