The Wagner Community Memorial Hospital-Avera sponsored a 12th annual 8th Grade Career Fair on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Wagner National Guard Armory. Partnering with the South Dakota Department of Health, the event also included “Camp Med Lanes”, which featured several different healthcare career choices. The event was coordinated by hospital employee, Connie Kaufman, BSN.

The one-act play called “Selfie” written by Bradley HaywarddonebytheAvondrama department, recently went to a regional competition in Mitchell where they competed against four other schools in hopes to make it to state. The other plays were “When Bad ThingsHappentoGoodActors” by Mt. Vernon, “The Internet is Distract”- “Oh Look a Kitten” by Ethan, “Bad Dates” by Kimball,and“AlltheBases”by Armour.AvonManagedtotake first place with Ethan coming in second, Kimball coming in third, Mt. Vernon coming in fourth, and Armour coming in last. This means that Avon andEthanwillbemovingonto the state competition happening February second through February fourth. Avon will be performing at 9:45 am on the second and the awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 pm on the fourth if anyone would like to go watch their amazing performance.

Thisiswillthe 84th year of gathering in the Lords name to tell the Easter Story through narration and song. The Cantata was first organized in 1939 by the Avon School Principal. We will be underthedirectionoftheAvon Choir Director Autumn Schultz once again. The Community choirismadeofmanymembers from the surrounding towns, into Nebraska, as far as Sioux Falls, and Jr High and High School students from area schools. We welcome any new memberswhowouldlovetojoin us in song and looking forward to seeing all the returning members. This years Cantata will be 'Echoes of Easter' arranged by Cliff Duran, Cap Kirkland & Phil Nitz.
