Wagner Rotarians gathered on September 4th with President Jordan Weber giving a nice soft ring of the bell to bring everyone to order. Rotarian Jeff Doom introduced his two guests: his mother Jeanette Doom and his brother Bruce. Song leader Gerrit Juffer led the group in singing two verses of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

SD OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT HOLDS MEETING

The South Dakota Department Office of Emergency Management held an application briefing on Wednesday, September 4th at the Charles-Mix County 4-H building in Lake Andes. The meeting was held to give county crews, business members and Charles-Mix County residents information about the application process for any damages that were incurred from the flooding this past June and July. There are four phases that an applicant must go through in order to potentially recover damages after completing and submitting an initial request for public assistance.

ISHMAEL HONORED AS VETERAN OF THE MONTH

The Wagner American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is honoring Walter Ishmael as September’s Veteran of the Month. Ishmael enlisted in the Navy in September of 1963. He was one of four from Wagner that joined the Navy at the same time. The other Navy recruits were Neil Hyde, Wendell Stewart and Dean Carda. The four attended basic training together in San Diego, CA at the Naval Training Center. For the first two years of his service, Ishmael’s job was in Aviation Structural Mechanic-Hydraulics which kept him in a land-based status. He had been stationed at the U.S. Naval Auxiliary Air Station Ream Field which is also known as the “Helicopter Capital of the World”. Ishmael decided that it was time for a change of scenery and volunteered to be on the first ship available.

A graveside service for John Ray Parker, 67, of Lake Andes, with a motorcycle send off will be held Thursday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Andes. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner is in charge of arrangements. If anyone will need a seat please bring a chair. Following the service there will be a gathering at the Duck Inn.
