GARY MATTIS

Gary LaVern Mattis, 82, passed away July 25, 2023 in Independence, Missouri. Gary was born to Bessie Hennies and Jack Mattis in Wagner during a blizzard. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and graduated from Wagner High School in 1958.

The Wagner Rotary club held a weekly meeting on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. President Rebecca Brunsing called the meeting to order with a rap on the Rotary Bell. Pastor Bill Herman offered a prayer of thanksgiving for our meal and for our guests.

BLOOD DRIVE

LifeServe Blood Center held a blood drive in Wagner on Tuesday, August 1, and had a GREAT turnout! 26 donors were able to donate and 32 units of life saving blood were collected! Thank you to every donor who participated in the drive and helped to boost the LOCAL blood supply! The units donated at the blood drive can help save up to 96 lives! WAGNER SWIMMERS COMPETE AT 2023 AAU JUNIOR OLYMPICS

Athletes from the Wagner Waves Swim Team competed at the 2023 AAU Junior Olympics from July 27th - 30th in Des Moines, IA as part of the James River Valley League Team along with other athletes from the league and over 600 national and international athletes. The James River Valley League had a total of 44 athletes on their roster that combined for a total of 510 points and finished the event with a 12th place ranking out of 31.

WORK BEGINS ON WAGNER GOOD SAMARITAN BUILDING

Work has begun on the Wagner Good Samaritan building. A contractor is removing parts and pieces from the kitchen and utility room, which were the areas of the building that sustained the most fire damage. The process is expected to take 60 days, and when complete, they'll have an even better understanding of the full extent of the damage.

FREE SESSIONS BY THE LAKE COMING TO WAGNER

If you like music, relaxing by the lake in the evening and having some great food make plans to attend the first of three evening concerts to be held in Wagner during the final last two weeks of August and the first evening in September. The event is called “Sessions By The Lake” and is an extension of the “605 Unity JAM” that was held at the Wagner Lake this last June. The importance of unity for our community is the main theme and this message will be echoed throughout the concert series.
