BHA WRESTLERS DEFEAT PARKSTON; THIRD AT WINNER INVITATIONAL

After a long lay off due to weathertheBonHomme-Avon wrestlers got back on the mat hosting a dual against Parkston January 19. Going into this dual, the wrestlers had limited practices, and it was a little concerning just due to the fact there was not much time to prepare. At the end of the day the wrestlers took care of business 42-23. As a team they are wrestling well and understandthateachtimethey step on the mat they need to do their job which is huge if this team wants to make the state dual tournament.

CLASSROOM OF THE WEEK

Theresa Swier has been teaching 5th and 6th grade mathandscienceand5thgrade social studies for two years. In Mrs. Swier’s room they have recently begun learning about fractions in math. In social studies they are studying the Declaration of Independence, and in science they are learning about the effects humans have on earth’s energy resources.

WRESTLING SEASON

The Bon Homme/Scotland/ Avon wrestling season has begun, and there have already been five meets, which mostly take place on the weekends. From Avon, there are three junior high wrestlers- Bailey Kemnitz, Weston Bierema, and Thayne Tjeersdma. Avon also has six highschool wrestlers- Tyler Tjeersdma, Cody Sassaman, Ashley Tolsma, Randall Powers, Kash Peterson, and Hope Kemnitz. Our wrestlers have been having much success lately. For example, Tyler Tjeersdma just recentlyreceivedhis100thwin inFreemanonDecember12.He has been wrestling for 11 years andisnowasenior.Tyler’sgoal for the rest of the season is to place 5th at state wrestling in Sioux Falls.

Terran Neils Talsma was bornMarch22,2006.Terran's parents are Ty and Kristin Talsma, and his siblings are TreyvanandGiannaTalsma. Terran's favorite subject in school is geometry. Terran enjoys this subject because he comprehends it well. The most challenging task that Terran faces as a senior is trying to stay on task when youareexcitedtoleave.Inhis sparetime,Terranlikestodo rodeo. Terran competed in steer wrestling in Las Vegas this past December.

OUR FAVORITE SLEDDING HILLS

There aren’t many hills in Lake Norden, so when snowbegantopileupduring winter our sledding opportunities were limited. Usually, we waited until the city maintenance crew finished plowing the streets because they always deposited the snow in two huge piles: one across from the fire hall and another next to the auditorium. That’s where kids gathered to play King on the Mountain or create an elaborate network of snow tunnels or just have an old-fashioned snowball fight.
