DSU CELEBRATES FALL 2023 COMMENCEMENT

MADISON, S.D., March 1, 2024 – Dakota State University in Madisoncelebratedfall2023graduates.The218graduatesearned a total of 257 degrees, 20 associate degrees, 129 baccalaureate degrees, 56 master’s degrees, and 12 earned doctoral degrees. Additionally, 36 undergraduate certificates and 4 graduate certificates were earned.

AVON HIGH SCHOOL’S FIRST FEMALE WRESTLERS

Avon had two girl wrestlers on the Bon Homme/Scotland/ Avon girl’s wrestling team this 2023-2024 wrestling season. Ashley Tolsma and Hope Kemnitz were both first year wrestlers on the team. This is the fourth year since South Dakota first sanctioned girls wrestling in 2021. Even though it was the fourth year of SDHSAA sanctioned wrestling, in Avon this was not necessarily common knowledge. The 20232024 season was the first year that Avon has had any girl wrestlers.

The Charles-Mix County 4-H Department has a friendly new face in their office. Jo Cee Johnston joined the Charles-Mix County 4-H as an administrative assistant on January 16th. Jo Cee is originally from Royal, NE but has recently moved to Platte.

Funeral services for Lester Patterson, 53, of Oneida, WI were held Wednesday, February 28 at the Marty Community Center in Marty. Burial was in the Hill Church Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
