Youth from the Charles Mix County Shooting Sports program qualified for State Shoot. They traveled to Ft. Pierre April 26-28. Charles Mix County was well represented, as there were many awards received.

Becky has always said that she would retire from teaching when her youngest child graduated from high school. As her youngest, Jhett, is a WHS 2024 Class Graduate, Becky held true to her words and is officially retiring from teaching this 2023-2024 school year. She wants to end her teaching career still having a love for the students and staff.

Sandy has been a part of the food service team as a dishwasher and server. Sandy has decided that as the 2023-2024 school year comes to a close, so does her time at WCS. She is officially retiring. Sandy decided that it was time to retire in order to be able to help her mom.
Read moreThe 34th annual Academic Excellence Recognition luncheon was held on Monday, April 29th in Pierre. This event highlights the academic achievements of the best and brightest 1% of students throughout South Dakota from the Class of 2024. This year Wagner High School senior, Jennifer Barnett, was honored at the luncheon. Each student is presented with a certificate, South Dakota pin and has the opportunity to meet and have their picture taken with the governor. As Governor Kristi Noem had a prior engagement, the students had their picture taken with Lieutenant Governor, Larry Rhoden. The event had around 200 students who were recognized for their academic excellence.
Read moreJhett Breen was selected to play in the SD high school football all-star game. Kickoff will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at Dykhouse Stadium at South Dakota State University. The game is free to attend. Players were graduating seniors selected by the SDFBCA through nominations of high school coaches in the state. Jhett will play for the blue team. Coached by head coach Brian Allmendinger, of Milbank, with assistant coaches Mike Murray, of Gregory; Matt Christensen, of Brandon Valley; Tom Culver, of Bon Homme; and Justin Briese, of Aberdeen Central.

Requirements to be named to this prestigious list include being a junior or senior, having a GPA of 3.0 or higher, being involved in community and school activities, be an elite athlete and be nominated by their coach or school administration.
Read moreMerritt and Joanne Stegmeier have been chosen as the 2024 Fish Days Parade Marshall's. The Stegmeiers have been residents of Lake Andes since September 18, 1989. The couple originally moved to the area from Oregon after Merritt was transferred to the SD Army Corp of Engineers at Pickstown where he became the Lake Manager of Lake Francis Case. The couple knew that they had made the right choice planting their roots in Lake Andes as soon as they arrived with the moving van. Moving here without knowing a single person, it was suggested to the Stegmeiers to call the Lake Andes School when they were looking for some help unloading. After calling the school, students Mike Carda and Curt Breen were enlisted to help Merritt and Joanne.
