Read moreOn Thursday, February 20, Wagner’s 7th and 8th grade boys traveled to Mt. Vernon to take on the MVP Titans. The 7th graders took to the court first. The boys looked a little rusty after not playing a game for ten days. Lots of missed buckets and turnovers plagued the Red Raiders early on. As the half progressed, they were able to get some easy buckets off turnovers and in transition and ended up with a 17-4 lead at the half. It was an evenly played second half and, after all was said and done, Wagner came away with a 37-22 win. The players the Titans would remember the most would be Parker Petry and Deshawn Sully as they contributed 13 and 10 points respectively. Preston McFayden netted eight points, Aziah Meyer four, and Treyson Zephier two, to account for all the scoring. The 8th graders then took the floor and quickly got off to 2-0 lead on a nice runner in the lane by Joey Cournoyer. Cournoyer would lead Wagner in scoring as he tallied six points. Usually when your leading scorer has six points you’d assume that it was not a good night for your team. That would have been a correct assumption on this particular night as Wagner was defeated soundly by a score of 37-12. Three other players cracked the scoring column as Carter Cournoyer, Braylon Guerue, and Josh Leighton each scored two points.
