Read moreDick Padrnos, formerly of Lake Andes, was inducted into the South Dakota Basketball Hall of Fame on August 24th in Sioux Falls. Padrnos was a standout basketball player for the Lake Andes High School Eagles during the years of 1947 through 1951. He wore number 33 and was the team’s center. As an eighth grader, Padrnos was a starter on the varsity basketball team and started for the Eagles for five seasons. He led the team in scoring his freshmen through senior year and would score 250-300 points per season. During his senior year, Padrnos averaged 23 points per game with his highest scoring game against Armour where he scored 40 points. He helped lead the Eagles to their first state basketball tournament in 1951, where they finished in 3rd place. The Eagles ended that season with a 30-1 win-loss record.

Read moreHarvey Leclaire is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was drafted in 1955 and did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then did his training as an infantry soldier also at Fort Leonard Wood. Infantry soldiers were ground troops in the U.S. Army who were the first line of defense in ground combat. After finishing his training, Leclaire was stationed in Hawaii where he served his entire one year of service in the Army. Being drafted into the Army was Leclaire’s first time leaving the Midwest and getting to travel.
