WAGNER DEFEATS MVP

The Raiders got their 6th win of the season Tuesday night in Wagner against MVP. The boys jumped out to a 20-11 lead after the first period and led 3026 at half time. The Titans made things interesting in the second half but Wagner led the majority of the way and won the game 59-52. Carter Cournoyer had another big night with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Parker Petry scored 15 points, Joey Cournoyer Jr added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Preston McFayden scored 6 points, Jesse Zephier had 3, Brady Cournoyer and Javian Pesicka each scored 2. Wagner shot 25 free throws to the Titans 1, the boys also outrebounded MVP 26-25. Wagner will play Scotland on Thursday at home.

WAGNER BOYS BEAT SCOTLAND

The Wagner boys improved to 7-4 with a win over Scotland. The Raiders led 11-7 after the first period and 26-24 at half time. Wagner pulled ahead in the second half, they led by as many as 19 in the fourth period before Scotland made a run cutting the lead to 5. Wagner held on to win by a final score of 56-47. Carter Cournoyer had 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Parker Petry scored 14 and had 12 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive. Preston McFayden added 12 points, Joey Cournoyer Jr. and Jesse Zephier each scored 5 and Brady Cournoyer scored 4. Wagner dominated the glass, grabbing 41 rebounds to Scotland’s 33. The Raiders play in Hanson on Tuesday night.

A PERSON TO KNOW – LORI BOUZA

Lori Bouza has been a resident of Wagner for the past 39 years. She has been a part of the Wagner community since 1985 when she took her first teaching position as an elementary teacher at the Wagner Community School. After having just graduated from the University of South Dakota with an elementary and special education degree, she had heard through friends Pam and Marge Weber that there was an opening at the Wagner school for an elementary teaching position. Lori was hired two weeks before the school year began. What was only supposed to be a one-year teaching job turned into a 34-year career for Lori.

Funeral service for Jayden Keith Olson-Zephier, 3 months, of Wagner were held Tuesday, January 16 at the YST South Housing Gym in Wagner. Burial was in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Wake services began Saturday at the YST South Housing Gym. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
