Jerald Leines, 75, of Wagner died Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Due to current health concerns, private funeral services are being held at the Peters Funeral Home in Wagner. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner.

Jerald Lester Leines was born February 15, 1945 in Aberdeen, the son of Marvin and (Nina) Hamann.

Jerry lived the first 12 years of his life in Mellette. In 1957,they moved to Armour, where he graduated from high school in 1963. He started college at Southern State Teachers College in the fall of 1963. After two years, at the age of 20, he had to withdraw because developing Rheumatoid Arthritis. He went back and graduated in 1968. He went to work for the State of South Dakota Department of Social Services in 1969. He worked in Winner for the first seven years and then transferred to Rapid City, where he worked until retiring on August 3, 2001.

Jerry loved all kinds of sports. The Green Bay Packers were his favorite team. He really enjoyed watching the American Legion Post #22 baseball team through the years and walking at Canyon Lake. Jerry had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes, especially blonde jokes. He entered the Wagner Good Samaritan Center in October of 2019.

Thankful for having shared his life are his brother Jim Leines of Wagner, his special nephews and nieces and their families: Tim and Ruth Leines and son Noah of Wagner, Tami and Aaron Hanson of Wagner and their daughters Courtney (Presley and Lilly) and Madyson, Tracy and Lucy Leines of Wagner and kids Brennan, Abriana, Emmalyn, Ellie and Kade (son Wesley), Missy’s son’s Justin and Ruth Bouza, (Timmy and Michael) and Jordan (Alexa Cimpl) Wunder; great friends Gene and Robyn Opestedahl, Shirley Lacher and Dennis Hawley.

Jerry was preceded in death by his dad Marvin in 1963, mother Nina in 2005, niece Missy Wunder in 2010, and sister-in-law Shirley Leines in 2015.
