RED RAIDERS FALL IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE IN SEASON OPENER

Posted in:

Friday night the Red Raiders traveled up to Wessington Springs to take on the WWSSC Blackhawks for the 2018 season opener. on the opening drive for the Blackhawks the Red Raider were able to come up with one of our 3 turnovers for the evening on an interception by Malcolm Janis to but a stop to the Blackhawks drive. Again, in the second quarter Janis stopped another Blackhawk drive with an interception the teams traded possessions with both defenses shutting each other down. In the second possession of the second half the Red Raider offense started to come alive Jaden Peters was able to hit Preston Nedved for a 15-yard pass to help keep the drive and both peters and tony Bruguier came up with good runs, but the Red Raiders ended up having to punt. On the next Blackhawk drive on 3 and 14 Kelby Kafka stepped in front of Landon Wolter’s screen pass and returned it down to into Blackhawk territory. Unfortunately, the Red Raiders were unable to capitalize on the turnover and gave the ball back to the Black-hawks. In the fourth quarter the Blackhawks were able to open the quarter with a touchdown. The Red Raider offense was able to pick up yardage on offense but unable to get into the endzone. The final score ended up 14-0 in favor of the Blackhawks. Offensively the Red Raiders were led by passing wise by Jaden Peters who was 6-11 for 52 yards receiving wise Preston Nedved had 3 receptions and both KJ. St. Pierre and Malcolm Janis had 2. On the Ground Peters led the Red Raiders with 58 yards. Defensively Bruguier had 14 tackles both Nedved and Dawson Lensing had 9 and St. Pierre had 9, Janis had 2 interceptions as well to lead the Red Raider defense. Our players played hard Friday night, we had some new players that did a good job of stepping in and playing well. Overall our defense did a great job of playing tonight we didn’t allow any big plays or long drives. After the first couple of drives really settled in and played well as a unit. Offensively it took us awhile to get things going but were able to put together some drives but were unable to put any points on the board. The Red Raiders home opener is Friday at 7:00 pm against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton. We hope to see you there.
