JON PATRICK JONAS
Funeral Mass for Jon Patrick Jonas, 56, of Avon was held Friday, January 19 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Jon was born in Tyndall May 16, 1967 to John and Jo Ann (Varilek) Jonas. He peacefully departed January 11, 2024. Jon attended and graduated from Yankton High School in May of 1985.
In his early adult years, Jon lived by Tabor and worked for the County of Bon Homme; where he was blessed with his first three children: Cassandra, Kimberly and Ryan. In 1997, the family relocated to southwest Bon Homme County where Jon’s passion for ranching and working with dogs and horses began. In 2000 the family was complete with the birth of Josephine. Jon’s love and passion for the outdoors was reflected in his deep connection to nature and the land. In moments of leisure, Jon took pleasure in the pursuits of hunting and trap shooting. Whether amidst nature’s beauty or honing his skills on the range, these activities brought him a sense of fulfillment and camaraderie. His zest for outdoor adventures will be fondly remembered by those who shared in these pastimes with him. Jon loved his family deeply and that love only grew with the addition of each grandchild, whom he shared his passions with. Jon loved attending each of their events and was so proud of them all. While you wouldn’t necessarily find Jon sitting in a church pew, he was a devout Christian and his faith in our God ran deep; this was a virtue he instilled in his children as well.
It’s essential to honor the profound impact of his late wife Tracy Jonas, whose memory remains intertwined with his legacy. Additionally, a heart felt mention goes to his life partner, Carol Rempp, a special person who filled his final years with love, family, and companionship.
Jon is survived by his parents, John and Jo Ann Jonas; his sister Jana (Jim) Lane and daughters: Rose and Rain, all of Yankton. Jon’s life was dedicated to his four beloved children: Cassandra (Trent) Hollenbeck and children: Kyle, Peytyn, Dawson, Bradyn, Eve-Anna, Preslyn and Braxtyn of Armour; Kimberly Jonas and son Kason of Wagner; Ryan (Tarryn) Jonas and children: McKinley, Whitley and newly anticipated grandchild of Bartlett, NE; Josephine Jonas of Armour and significant other Logan Schiltz; life partner Carol Rempp of Avon; Nettie Talsma of Tea; Corrie (Rich) Trujillo of Lennox; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that became family.
Jon was preceded in death by his late wife Tracy Jonas; angel grandbabies Hudsyn and Lennon; maternal and paternal grandparents; and Father-in-Law Jack Talsma.
As we bid farewell to Jon, may his soul find eternal peace, surrounded by the echoes of his love for family, the beauty of nature, and the meaningful connections that defined his remarkable life.
