LAWRENCE SCHROEDER
Lawrence Schroeder, 87, of Sioux Falls went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Sioux Falls VA Hospital. Visitation was Monday, October 4 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. Memorial services were Tuesday, October 5 also at the funeral home. Lawrence Curtis Schroeder, son of Leo Sr. and Helen (Hyde) Schroeder was born September 14, 1934, in Wagner. He attended grade and high schools throughout South Dakota and Nebraska. He graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1952. He was a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1952 to 1955. Lawrence served in the United States Army from 1957 until earning his Honorable Discharge in 1959. He worked for Sully Butte Telephone Co. as a surveyor, Jardine Bridge Co. of Fargo, North Dakota, and at the missile sites in Great Falls, Montana. The majority of his working career was spent with Northern States Power where he dedicated 30 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for a short period of time at Walmart and for the SD Department of Transportation.
He enjoyed the following highlights of his military service, getting to see Mickey Mantle and the New York Yankees in Chicago when he was discharged at Ft. Sheridan in Illinois. He was also able to go to the World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium while stationed in Germany. On July 26, 1983, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Zuraff in Sioux Falls. He served as a Coordinator for CURE in South Dakota. Over the years he has been a faithful member of both Linwood Wesleyan Church and Faith Temple Church in Sioux Falls.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy of Sioux Falls; daughter, Lisa (Ray) Tate of Jackson, MS; son, Mark (Kathy) Schroeder of Sioux Falls; step daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Redinger of Cape Girardeau, MO; grandchildren, Dakota (Callie) Tate of Jackson, MS, Kayla (John) Hakari of Lincoln, NE, Kyle (Bailey) Schroeder of Sioux Falls, Brennan Redinger of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Peyton Redinger of Cape Girardeau, MO; great granddaughter, Kennedy Schroeder; brother, Loren Schroeder of Viborg; along with extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen; four sisters, Frankie Jo, Kay, Patricia JoAnn, and Crystal; four brothers, Glen, Leo Jr., Walden Patrick, and Douglas David and a nephew Greg Schroeder.
