Wihenapah Hoksina “Sunrise Boy” Waetermans, 41, of Marty died Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were Monday, August 26 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Marty. Burial was in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Marty. Sunrise was the beloved son of Altina Mace and Hygi Waetermans. He was a father of five children: Chloe, Willow, Mira, Lucas and Mason. He resided in Marty with his son Mason and his spouse Trish. He was a sports fanatic, cinema enthusiast, music connoisseur, a true artist, easy going and kind hearted.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends for any occasion, and was known for his humor and entertainment. Music was a passion of his. He enjoyed attending concerts (as well as putting on his own). He loved working at Marty Indian School, whether it was as a substitute, dorm parent, or cook in the kitchen. He always wanted to make a difference in the students’ lives, and felt he could do it best in his community. He was not one to shy away from helping anyone in need. His pride was his children; he adored them so much and beamed about the individuals they turned into.

Sunrise is survived by his spouse Trisha Enjady, children: Chloe Tiger, Willow Tiger, Lucas and Mira Archambeau, and Mason Waetermans; parents, Altina (Clarence) Mace and Hygi (Marcy) Waetermans; siblings: Dorothy Kiyukan (hunka), Bonnie Zephier, Dawn Zephier, Lance Waetermans, Sulrago Waetermans, Brandy and Brandon Waetermans, Michael Blaine (hunka) Zephyr Waetermans, Sara Mace, Clarence Mace, Ashley Stands, Sean Mace, Mariah Mace, and Katie Waetermans; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
