Thomas “Tom” Earl Grussing, 66, of Geddes, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Mount Funeral Home of Platte, is assisting with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family through mountfuneralhome.com.

Tom was born on March 13, 1955, in St. Paul, MN, to John and Alma (Hess) Grussing. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. He attended Parochial and public schools in the Benson area. He later continued his education at Bemidji State University and in Detroit Lakes. Tom was married to Paula Lottman on February 16, 1974 and three children were born to this union. Tom married again, to the love of his life, Cindy Boyd, on October 17, 1992 and became a father to her two young sons.

Tom worked as a welder at Tyler Industries and Lorenz Manufacturing in Benson, MN in his younger years. He later worked many construction jobs, including helping build a home for his brother and sister-in-law in Idaho. Tom became a sandblaster and painter working for Abhe and Svoboda, Odland Protect Coatings Inc. and Rainbow Inc., where he met many lifelong friends. His work took him on many grand adventures including time in Alaska and Antigua, and eventually to Geddes, which became his home for the last 30 plus years. In Geddes, he owned and operated his own shop where he would refinish many vehicles and farm equipment.

Tom was a fun-loving prankster, who loved to tell a good joke, could tell a ridiculous story straight faced, enjoyed card games with family and friends, and he would watch anything from wrestling and football to Peppa Pig with his grandkids. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tom was known to make some of the best jerky that he frequently shared with anyone that came for a visit. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, especially on holidays.

Tom will be lovingly missed by: his wife, Cindy; two daughters: Talana (Brian) and Celeste; three sons: Tharen, Josh (Brittanny) and Shaun (Lauren); siblings: Betty, Gary, Nancy, Sandy, John “Pete’’, Jim and Cindy; brother-in-law, David; 13 grandchildren; Kyelee, Austin, Kairah, Tahlen, Zach, Izaahk, Kayla, Kaytlin, Ariella, Aven, John Thomas, Mia and Everly; three great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Sally, Jerry, Dave, Donny and Patty.
