Funeral Mass for Shirley Jussel, 86, of Wagner was Thursday, February 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Shirley M. Jussel was born August 2, 1932 at Geddes, the daughter of Leo and Helen (Honner) Kinder. She died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner.

Shirley’s family moved to Oklahoma, then to Omaha, NE where she attended elementary school at St. John’s Catholic school to the eighth grade. At age 13, they moved to Wagner. She graduated from Wagner High School in 1950. She attended Southern State Normal College at Springfield and graduated from Mount Marty College in Yankton with a teaching degree. Shirley taught at elementary schools in Avon, Wagner and Glendo, WY.

Shirley was united in marriage to Clarence “Jess” Jussel on June 27, 1957 at Wagner.

Shirley will be remembered for her love for her family, collecting antiques, crocheting, reading and playing the piano. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Thankful for having shared her life are her four children: Julie (Don) Gunderson of Kearney, NE, Cathy (Kim) Durham of Yankton, Angie (Fred) Scheuffele of Wagner and John (Shona) Jussel of Yankton; eight grandchildren: Liz (Josh) Wozny, Dan (Candice) Gunderson, Kara Durham, Sean Durham, Dustin Scheuffele, Zach Scheuffele, Jess Jussel and Hannah Jussel; one great granddaughter, Nora Wozny; brother John (Margaret) Kinder of Willow Lake; sister-in-law June Kinder of Willow Lake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Clarence “Jess” in 1998, parents, brother Dick Kinder and sister Kathy Kinder.
