Rolene Provost, 53, of Wagner, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. Funeral services were Wednesday, January 23, the Community Center. Burial was in the Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery, rural Greenwood. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Rolene Frances Provost was born on August 30, 1965 to Roland and Bernadine (Gray) Provost. Her Indian name was Wicahpi Okinya Win, Flying Star Woman. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska.

Rolene attended Wagner School and Marty Indian School. She went to college at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

Rolene started a family and had seven beautiful children: Laurie, Robert, Marisa, Michael, Tessa, Ashley and Angel. She had eleven grandchildren: Richard Jr., Antonio, Imerra, Constantine, Elias, Emily, Ahe, Daylon, Drita, Kaily and Ta Canupa.

Later in her life Rolene met her soulmate, the love of her life and best friend, Gerald Red Lightning. They enjoyed 26 years together.

Throughout her life she worked at Marty Indian School as a bus driver, the Yankton Sioux Messenger, YST Housing, FRC as a top flight security guard, American Indian Services in Sioux Falls and at NAWREC developing KDKO radio station.

Rolene had many hobbies. She enjoyed researching history and the genealogy of the Ihanktonwan people. She loved to go and play her bonus bucks and enjoy a FRC meal.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Rolene was a hard working, super intelligent, strong and fierce Dakota woman. She was generous and always making relatives. She cared for everyone and always had a smile on her face. Rolene will be missed by many.
