Funeral services for Richard DenOuden, 78, were held Friday, December 4 at United Methodist Church in Webster with interment following at the Emmanuel Reformed Cemetery, Springfield.

Richard Cornelius DenOuden was born October 28, 1942 to Cornelius and Tena (Vander Veen) DenOuden on the family farm near Springfield. He attended Mennonite Country School near their home. After his education hejoinedthe South Dakota National Guard. While at Basic Training in Fort Leonard Wood, he was introduced to Carol Hull. The couple married and moved to South Dakota and made their home on a farm by Avon. To this union three children were born: Tena, Steven and Scott. In 1981, the couple divorced and in the mid 1980’s Richard and the boys moved to Webster, Tena was already off to college. Richard worked various jobs in the area, mainly as a mechanic and farmhand.

Richard always kept busy working. He enjoyed collecting farm machinery that needed repair as well as gun collecting. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and lead Bible Studies over the years. Last year, Richard took the trip of a lifetime traveling to the Holy Land in Israel.

Richard passed away November 28, 2020 at the age of 78 years and one month.

He will be missed by his two sons: Steven (Marie) DenOuden of Aberdeen and Scott DenOuden of Yankton; one daughter Tena DenOuden of Rapid City; four brothers: John (Judy) DenOuden of Avon, Donald (Cheryl) DenOuden of Avon, Clarence (Joan) DenOuden of Pierre and Man DenOuden of Fairmont, MN, two sisters: Ruth (Rev. Jerry) Boaz of Topeka, KS and Janice Russell of Rapid City; two grandchildren: Stephanie (Kyle) Erdahl and Kylie DenOuden and one great grandchild Charleigh Erdahl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Lenard, Janet, Joyce, Carol and Mary.
