RICHARD CARDA

Richard Arnold Carda, age 92, of Janesville died on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on April 24, 1931, in Geddes, he was the only child born to Stephen and Irene (Rokusek) Carda. Richard grew up on a farm near Geddes and received his education at Geddes Public Schools. On December 28, 1951, Richard enlisted into the United States Army, serving in the Korean War until his honorable discharge on Dec. 16, 1953. Richard was united in marriage to Madonna Petrik at St. Mark Catholic Church in Lake Andes, South Dakota on June 20, 1955. They began their married life together living on the farm near Geddes where Richard farmed for a few years before going to work for Charles Mix County in Lake Andes. In 1970, they moved their family to Janesville where they made their home and raised seven children. Richard worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. Some of those include Owatonna Cannery, the Sugar Plant in rural Waseca, and driving gas truck for the Janesville Creamery. He also worked as a welder at Kato Cab, Midwest Electric, and Kato Light, retiring in 1996. In retirement, Richard stayed busy tinkering with vehicles, substitute teaching and janitor at JWP which led him to teach welding/small engine classes and was proud of helping them build a racecar. He enjoyed mowing his lawn, woodworking, working on cars, and puzzles. Richard was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville, the Janesville American Legion Post 281, and Catholic Order of Foresters. Above all, Richard was a faithful man, devoted to his wife and family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Madonna of Janesville; children: Bob (Ann) Carda of Janesville, Connie (Rick) Hoehn of Janesville, Jean (Allan) Zuehlsdorf of Belview, Yvonne (Bruce) Butturff of Stewartville, Ruth (Terry) Johnson of Rochester, Mike (Kay) Carda of Lakeville, and Mona (Darrin) Fellows of Redding, CA; 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Carda of Wagner, SD, and Sherry (Jack) Miller of South Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dale Carda; granddaughter-in-law, Lori Carda; niece, Lisa Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, June 3 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Brian Mulligan as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.
